Deep-Tissue Massage is directed toward the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, sinking to deeper levels of stress in the layers of the body with more emphasis on therapeutic results than with general massage, but maintaining relaxation and pleasure as a major goal.
There are many variations in how deep-tissue massage is performed, in terms of both therapeutic goals for the work and how it is practiced. Both for treatment and prevention of a multitude of soft-tissue problems related to acute or chronic conditions, this approach includes the use of several therapy systems directed toward neurophysiological processes that affect the musculo-skeletal system. Alterations or disturbances in the neuromuscular relationship often result in dysfunction and pain. These therapies include, among others, myofascial release/trigger point therapy, neuromuscular therapy (including passive and assisted stretching), and passive positioning therapies.
With the client's agreement, a session may not cover the entire body. Doing spot work allows for careful attention to problem areas rather than spreading the work too thin. For the most part, minimal lubrication is used.

Hot stones have been used in healing for eons, and their incorporation into massage serves to amplify the benefits of this bodywork. The circulation of blood, lymph and vital energy is increased, improving the delivery of nutrients to the cells and the removal of waste products. The tone of hollow visceral organs is strengthened and the heat produced by the stones reduces excess tension in soft tissue, increases joint mobility and acts as a sedative to the nervous system. The use of hot stones can be integrated into relaxation massage and therapeutic deep tissue massage.
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Force Energy. This ancient form of natural holistic healing helps to balance and restore all aspects of an individual: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The Reiki practitioner brings intention and commitment to the process, acting as a compassionate conduit for the universal life force while, by its very nature, Reiki gives the power and control for healing to the receiver, where it rightly belongs. This happens independently of belief system, emotional state or religious preference. Receiving Reiki is deeply relaxing and leaves one with a sense of integration, lightness and inner peace.
Raindrop therapy is an essential oil massage technique based on Lakota Native healing that combines the art of aromatherapy with the techniques of reflexology and massage. The application of nine different essential oils to various areas of the body brings balance to the body and helps to align and clear energy centers without using force or excessive pressure. Several of the oils used are antimicrobial in nature and help to reduce the body's inflammation and destroy any viral presence. Raindrop technique creates a profound sense of relaxation, balance and harmony throughout the mental, physical and emotional aspects of the body. (Choice of oils can be customized to target the specific needs or preferences of each individual client.)
As the medical profession has begun to recognize that so many of our modern illnesses are rooted in stress,
researchers have started to take a renewed look at alternative methods of healing that explore the deep
interdependency of body, mind and spirit and support a more holistic approach to health and well-being in daily life.
Numerous studies of therapeutic massage and energy techniques like reiki show that the creation of a deep state of relaxation acts through the autonomic nervous system to lower blood pressure and heart rate; to relieve pain, tension and anxiety; to augment the abilities of the immune system to defend against bacteria and viruses; and to stimulate the body's production of endorphins, natural opiates that act to decrease the perception of pain and create a state of well-being. Massage is also known to promote faster healing of injured muscle tissue, to increase joint flexibility, to improve posture and to reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress. Health and healing is thereby facilitated at all levels by the stimulation of this response through massage and other complementary healing techniques, allies for a lifetime in maintaining physical and mental wellness.
